Michael and I visited Portland to attend the 2016 Oregon Medical Group Management Association (OMGMA) conference. It was located in a beautiful hotel right on the Columbus River overlooking Mt. Hood. We agreed that it was definitely the most stunning views that we have seen while doing a trade show. On our first day there, we set up our 10×10 exhibit booth and enjoyed a networking happy hour that included cocktails and appetizers. Then, we starting pitching MEDX to office managers and conference attendees.

The following day, The Doctor’s Company did an informative one-hour presentation regarding smartphones and the trends of app usage in the medical setting. One statistic that caught our eye was that as of 2016, 45% of physicians are using medical apps on their smartphone (i.e. iPhone/Android). A significant chunk of that percentage are using smartphones to collaborate with care teams via secure messaging apps. Their presentation highlighted the current trend of behaviors and the need of our technology moving forward in healthcare.

We also attended a seminar that circled around computer hacking, data breaches and the vulnerability of protected health information. We found this seminar very educational. It covered various types of risks and the importance of technology security to mitigate these threats. The participants of the seminar shared many experiences and examples of how serious these issues are in healthcare. The presenters also shared the various types and amounts of insurance coverages for cyber security and data breaches that may soon become mandatory.

After attending these seminars Michael and I formulated our pitches around education, awareness, and trends in behavior to interested office managers and attendees. Many agreed that smartphone use has been increasing at their practices and mitigating those risks have been talking points in their meetings. Speaking with office managers also gave us great insight into how MEDX can help their specific workflows and how they envision using the technology for their future needs.

Overall, we were excited to share our product with those who visited the exhibit booth and those we met at the networking events. We were also very pleased with the response we garnered from the attendees. We would like to thank the OMGMA for having us this year. We had an excellent time and we look forward to attending again and are happy to be considered partners.

Sincerely,

Kyle Hamar, Director of Business Development
