Professional experiences from diverse medical systems and managed care settings brought two brothers, Rikesh Parikh, MD and Michael Parikh, MA together in the creation of a very advanced HIPAA-Compliant communication solution for healthcare referred to as Mobile Encrypted Data Xchange or MEDX. MEDX was developed for the sole purpose of making the smartphone a secure ally for healthcare personnel in order to improve patient outcomes.
To accomplish this goal, the first task was to develop an encrypted infrastructure and security protocols that will protect employers and their employees from possible HIPAA violations and data breaches when using the smartphone. The second task was to develop the features necessary to improve communication patterns and clinical workflow.
Once the high level design was completed, a technical team led by Chase Dombrowski, CISM engineered the software’s architecture using Human Health Services and the HITECH Act’s technical and security guidelines ( He then made it even more secure by exceeding the industry standard by using security methods such as dual layer end-to-end encryption and unique session token identifier.
When the technical securities were put into place, a medical advisory board spearheaded by Dr. Parikh was assembled. The board was intuitively comprised of medical professionals from diverse specialties, such as general surgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery, radiology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, nursing, behavioral psychology and ancillary healthcare services. The main purpose of the advisory board was to assist with clinical workflow probabilities, scenarios and processes. The board then developed the features necessary to augment these clinical workflows.
After the features were implemented into the software application, the medical advisory board served as a beta team to ensure that these core features were feasible on a five inch device and operated to their standard of quality.
